Bumble Bee Baby Shower Inspiration Board

Bumble Bee Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

Today’s post provides inspiration for throwing a bumble bee baby shower for the Mother to Bee and the soon arrival of the new bundle of joy that is as Sweet as can Bee! Typically most people will utilize a black and yellow color palette for this popular bumble bee theme, however I wanted to show you a couple inspiration boards for different color palettes: yellow and gray & yellow and brown!  You can even get fancy and use a variety of shades for each color i.e. charcoal gray and mustard yellow or dark brown and light yellow; add accent colors such as ivory, white, tan, gold, and silver; and/or add patterns and shapes such as chevron, circles, stripes, and floral. (Please bee kind and leave me a comment below letting me know which one is your favorite.)

Jake & The Neverland Pirates Birthday Party: Bryson DeCuir’s 2nd Birthday Party

I hope by now that you guys have realized what a huge arts & crafts/DIY fan I am – I LOVE working with my hands and creating things, plus it’s very therapeutic and I love to see my work come together. For those of you that missed it, last year I went DIY crazy for my son’s 1st Birthday party – a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme. Well this year, I also decided to pick one of his current favorite shows and decided on putting together a Jake & The Neverland Pirates themed birthday party for his 2nd birthday. I had one caveat though with this theme, which was to pull off a creative Neverland pirate’s theme with no skulls – personally I am not a fan of skulls, especially for kids – so if you know anything about pirate parties, skulls are everywhere. I definitely had a challenge on my hands, but I saw it as a creative challenge to create more DIY decor items for the party – fun, fun, fun!

First, I created a Jake & The Neverland Pirates invitation to mail out to close family and friends. Here is the invitation:

brysons invitation blog.001-001

After the invitations were taken care of I went to work on brainstorming and soon after began shopping for items at my favorite stores: Dollar Tree & Michaels! After a month or two of planning and DIY projects, it all came together beautifully for his 2nd birthday. I am super excited and couldn’t wait to share the amazing pictures with you – a huge THANK YOU to Danny Mariscal from The F Stop Design & Photography for taking these awesome pictures that captured all of my hard work!

My Family – me, the hubby, and the birthday boy!

My months of planning paid off and boy did the birthday boy and his guests have a blast! The kids, and even some adults, got to enjoy inflatable slides and a foam shooting range for 1.5 hours, plus face-painting, caricature drawings, and pirate favors for all the kids. It brought joy to my heart to see all the smiles on our friends and family’s faces. I really can’t tell you how happy I am that all my DIY details came together beautifully and were perfectly captured by Danny’s photography! I am proud to say that every single detail that you see in these pictures were designed, coordinated and/or created by me, except for the Jake & the Neverland Party stickers, Jake & The Neverland Party shirt, and the gorgeous cupcakes and cake pops that were made by Rebekah from Let Them Eat Cake! (Please find the vendor credits below.) There was cutting, painting, burning, designing, tearing, purchasing, planning and many more activities involved in these DIY projects and did you notice that I was able to pull it off without any skulls?! :)

Valentines Day

valentine24

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. I Corinthians 13: 4-8

Valentines Day is a widely celebrated day filled with LOVE, hearts, candy, flowers, and gifts exchanged between loved ones. Curious on how Valentines Day started? Read about it here. How are you celebrating today?

My husband and I have been married for 4.5 years and tend to not celebrate on actual holidays in order to avoid the crowds. I was pleasantly surprised by my wonderful husband – he surprised me with a planned Valentines Day evening out. Unbeknownst to me, he asked my sister to watch the baby and then he took me to Color Me Mine! Oh, I LOVED it! I am such an artsy person and I’ve done   a previous painting project there before, but it has been a long time since then and I was thankful to have this bonding time with my love! The cool part is he actually participated and enjoyed it – if you knew my husband you would know that this totally is not his thing, so I really appreciate the kind thought, planning, and participation.  After we finished painting our projects – a tea cup for me and a tile coaster for him – he took me to a romantic dinner at the Summit House! This restaurant has an old English Inn feel to it and the food was delicious, the wine was great, and the live pianist, fireplace, and amazing views overlooking the city really created the perfect ambiance for a romantic dinner. The evening ended with a beautiful heart-filled card and 3 new lovely pashminas to add to my collection – I LOVE pashminas! I really felt loved yesterday and was overwhelmed by my husbands thoughtfulness – he is not the planning type of guy so this was a big deal :) .

My son just started school 3 weeks ago and I signed up to bring in goodies for his class – I am definitely going to be that kind of mom and I LOVE it! So, I made little goodie bags for his classmates and gifts for his teachers. I thought I would share these super easy DIY projects with you. Also, I bought almost everything for these projects from the Dollar Tree – so it goes to show you don’t have to spend alot to put together a thoughtful gift.

DIY Tutorial Steps:

Materials: coffee mugs, candy, tissue paper, medium and large heart doilies, heart sticks, and gift wrapping ribbon

1. Insert the medium heart doily into the coffee mug, with the colored side facing up. Adjust it so that the heart shape is visible.

2. Fill the coffee mug with candy.

3. Write a note on the large doily and take two heart sticks and stick it through the bottom of the doily and into the mug until it reaches the bottom.

4. Layer 2 sheets of tissue paper and wrap it upwards, gathering it right above the base of the coffee mug. Use ribbon to tie a knot and secure the gather. Feel free to tie a bow and/or curl the ribbon.

Here is the goodie bags that I put together for my son’s class:

(Buy the items for your goodie bags and make sure they are age appropriate. Fill goodie bags and tie them with a pipe cleaner. Make a heart from the ends of the pipe cleaner, joining the ends in the middle and twisting them to make a heart shape.)

The teachers and kids LOVED their gifts! It only took an hours of my time to put together but the satisfaction of smiles on the kid’s faces and thankfulness from the teachers was priceless. All in all this Valentines Day has been a blessing and I wish a very heart-filled and loving day. Try to bless someone else today and remember we should celebrate love year round – not just on Valentines Day!

I decided to do something different and special today, so no Etsy Thursday this week – but please stop by next week for some more Etsy Wedding inspiration! In the meantime, feel free to LIKE us on Facebook and FOLLOW us on Pinterest for more lovely wedding, DIY, and event decor inspiration!

3D-Memoirs wishes you all a Happy Valentines Day!!

Mad Hatter Tea Party Baby Shower

Mad Hatter Tea Party Baby Shower

Today’s DIY topic is Baby Showers! I can’t believe it but a couple years have already passed since my baby shower and I meant to share it with you guys earlier, but better late than never. When I had my baby shower in November 2010, I really wanted a Mad Hatter Tea Party themed baby shower. With my planning and DIY obsessed self, I couldn’t just sit back and let my family plan for me – no, I had to be involved. I came up with the idea and had so much fun being involved and making the decor that you will see below. (My only regret is that I didn’t have a photographer capture the beauty, so please forgive me for these novice pictures.)

When it came to the baby shower invitations, I wanted something really fun and clever that would match the Mad Hatter theme. So, I contacted my amazing graphic designer girlfriend Marsinah, (Owner of Blushing Pearl), and she came up with the design for these adorable invitations – I added the verbiage – and viola I had a beautiful invitation that I loved! (FYI – I cut off the bottom to remove the personal information.) What do you think?

The invitations set the tone for the baby shower and from there I went DIY and baby shower planning crazy! I bought all kinds of unique tea pots for centerpieces, filling each teapot with hot water and allowing my guests to choose their own tea bag flavor and additions. I made “This Way” & “That Way” signs out of cardboard, scrapbooking paper, and painted popsicle sticks to hang around the venue. I made my own hanging tissue paper poms to hang from the ceiling. I made creative favor boxes that said, “Eat Me” full of white chocolate suckers, and “Drink Me” full of personalized tea bags for my guests. I stacked teacups on top of each other along with flowers, playing cards, and confetti for the tables. I made a sign requesting advice from my guests and ordered custom advice cards from VistaPrint. I also ordered the most amazing decorative, fun, and tasty cake from the talented Sara, owner of For The Love of Sugar, and it went perfect with the theme! Take a peek at the party details below!

All in all it was a fun affair and I am happy  that I was able to pull off  a fun and decorative Mad Hatter Tea Party baby shower, of course with the help of my sisters and best friend. I had a wonderful time and opened many lovely gifts for my little one! I hope this post serves as inspiration to any of my DIY readers.

3D-Memoirs is looking for submissions…..

Do you have a DIY project/tutorial that you would like to share? Do you have a recent creative event that designed and/or made the decor for that you would like to share?  If you answered YES to either of these questions, please contact me!

Save Money with these Must-Have Creative Online Wedding Tools & Resources

Technology – who can live without it? We are in a rapidly growing technological era and I am amazed at the amount of different opportunities and uses that technology has created for us – things that 10 years ago we wouldn’t even have imagined doing. It seems now-a-days that nearly everyone has a smartphone and even grandpa & grandma has a IPhone!  Well if you are like me then you are always looking for creative apps, online resources, and anything else technological to make daily tasks and life easier. In this day and age advanced technology is incorporated in almost everything (gaming consoles, 3D TV’s, streaming music, WIFI, etc.) So, for those of you brides & grooms that LOVE using technology, I thought I would recommend 5 online technological resources that you could use for your wedding that may actually save you money.

NEW WEDDING TECHNOLOGY

Online Invitations

paperless post

While most couples tend to stick with the traditional paper invitations which can easily cost hundreds of dollars, the truth is that there is a large chance that they are not kept but actually thrown away. (I am not discouraging the use of paper invitations because not only is it traditional but I’ve seen so many amazing, lovely, and creative invitations that I know any guest would be excited to receive in their mailbox.) For those of you that aren’t married to the idea of paper invitations or don’t consider yourself to be the traditional bride and groom, may want to consider sending an online wedding invitation. Why? You save trees, money, and you still get the same beautiful message across with your pertinent wedding day details!  Some people may consider it tacky or a no-no, but I would personally disagree and say that I am noticing that more and more brides and groom’s of today are choosing non-traditional rituals and items over the traditional – which allows them to really personalize their own wedding experience. Plus, the online wedding invitation designs have really improved over the past couple years – giving you the same beautiful details at a lower cost and in a digital format.  If you can’t fully embrace the idea of emailing invitations to your guests or you know you mom would have a panic attack, then consider using it for your save the dates and/or thank you cards! Here are a couple awesome online invitation companies:

Paperless Post - I have really seen this company grow over the past couple years. They have a wonderful variety of invitations and additionally they allow you to select designer cards, envelopes, liners, and logos at reasonable costs.

Greenvelope - Choose from their invitations or upload your own design. You have the option to create your own envelopes and this company donates a percentage of proceeds to a non-profit that maintains trees! Save money, go GREEN, and support trees with this company!

Pingg - This company offers invitations and announcements that cover engagement announcements, wedding save-the-date cards, wedding shower invitations, rehearsal dinner invitations, the wedding and many more.

Virtual Pinboard

Pinterest

The winner in this category without a doubt is Pinterest – an amazing virtual pinboard! While planning your wedding, I recommend that you utilize online pinboards to collect all of your favorite ideas found across the web in one organized place. I would make a virtual story board for everything – Wedding Dress, Wedding Bouquets, Bridesmaid Dresses, Centerpieces, Favors, Escort Cards, Guestbooks, Venues, Wedding Photography & favorite shots, Decor, Invitations, Wedding Ideas, Wedding Resources, etc. As you are doing your online research, make sure to PIN your favorites to you Pinterest boards. This allows you to compile of bunch of ideas and inspiration in one place so that when you meet with your wedding planner and vendors you can use pictures and ideas to explain and show what you are looking for because sometimes sharing your vision and ideas can be one of hardest things to do verbally. Sometimes you know what you want when you see it, but if someone asked you, you have a hard time explaining it so that they can visualize it.

The cool thing about Pinterest is that you can also search their database of pins for certain things you are looking for or follow your favorite people or companies that share amazing wedding inspiration. Also, you can invite your maid of honor, wedding planner, best friend, mom, bridesmaids, and anyone else you choose to pin to your board(s) and help you collect ideas and inspiration for your special day. Pinterest is an awesome gem  - but I caution you – it is VERY addicting!

(If you don’t know what Pinterest is you absolutely have to check it out after you are finished with this post. It definitely needs to be on your must-have list and if you like, feel free to stop by and check out all of my lovely inspiration boards.)

Wedding Websites

wedding window

Share your love story, wedding details & events, directions, and so much more with a wedding website. When I got married in 2008 I used a wedding website and absolutely LOVED it! I am sure that nearly 5 years later, wedding websites have improved leaps and bounds and would make it a practical option of communicating with your guests. Here are some of my favorites:

Wedding Window - Their tagline- “Your wedding. Your website. Your way.” Create a custom wedding website, add photos of you and your love, add your registry deets, have your guests sign your guestbook, let your guests RSVP to your wedding online, and much more! They have so many customizable options, amazing website themes, a bunch of free features, and great customer support!

(I would definitely recommend this company. I used them for my wedding and LOVED them – the experience, creative & elegant themes, flexibility, ease of use, and plus I was able to buy a CD of our entire site as a forever keepsake.)

Wedding Channel - If you are looking for something a little bit more basic, the wedding channel offers a free wedding website option to their members (it is free to sign-up).

E-Wedding – This FREE wedding tool offers a bunch of features and customizable options and themes for free.

Appy Couple –  This wedding app that allows you to create your very own wedding app and website for a low cost one-time cost of $28! Share your wedding logistics, communicate with your guests, share on social channels, and much more! This app is compatible with the Iphone and Android operating systems.

Wedding Apps

wedding app

Let your guests capture all of the beautiful moments, smiles, tears, dance moves, and everything else that your photographer may not be able to catch while he is working on capturing all of your important moments. Plus, it would be great to see photos from your wedding collected from your guests perspective. You can now easily do that with wedding photo apps that allow your guest to take photos, upload, and share instantly. It’s time to ditch the disposable cameras! Here are some of my favorites:

Wedding Party – This FREE wedding photo app allows your guests to instantly collect and share their favorite photos from the wedding in real-time, plus what a fun way to entertain your guests especially before you make your grand entrance and the food is served! (This wedding app is compatible with the Iphone and their Android app is currently in the Beta testing stage.)

WedPics - This FREE wedding photo app for your guests allows them to load photos in real-time and comment or “love” photos and offers lifetime hosting of all content.

Capsule - This wedding photo app offers 3 different pricing package options to choose from based upon your guest count. This wedding photo app is available for the Iphone and Android devices. You can use Instagram or even upload photos from your camera.

Wedding Registry

honeymoon registry

If you were like my hubby and I you had 2 of everything and didn’t need another blender, pot, or microwave on your wedding day. We were going to Hawaii and with all the money going towards the wedding, we didnt have much left over for the honeymoon. So we decided on a honeymoon registry. We shared our honeymoon destination with our guests and picked several honeymoon wish list options, such as a sunset dinner, luau, snorkeling, romantic dinner for two, etc. This gave our guests tangible items that allowed them to feel like they were contributing to an amazing honeymoon for us – a gift they were happy to give. If you are in need of some household items, then a traditional registry would work out perfectly for you two. Here are some cool wedding registry options:

Travelers Joy - My favorite honeymoon registry, but I am biased because I used them for my wedding and had an amazing experience! Low fees, easy to use, thank you options, and easy gift redemption options. Want to see a sample? Here is our honeymoon registry from 2008.

My Registry - This nifty registry allows you to save time by adding registry items from any website into ONE registry! Oh, how convenient! Instead of spending hours in different stores finding a bunch of items to scan, you can surf the web conveniently from home!

Etsy – If you are a lover of handmade, creative, and unique goods, then you will love Etsy! Did you know they offer a wedding registry? With a wide variety of shops and handmade goods, you will be in heaven trying to pick out your favorites for the registry!

A lot of information provided today, but I hope that it was helpful and useful information and that you found some awesome resources to use for your wedding to help you save money! I’d LOVE to hear from you, so please check out all the wedding technology resources above and let me know which ones you loved and which ones you decided to use! Please share this post with your friends and social circles and if you would like to receive more awesome posts like this one, please make sure to subscribe to the blog – simply add your email address to the Subscribe Via Email box on the right hand-side or click here.

When it comes to floral designs incorporated in wedding invitations, Behold Designz prides themself on their floral invitation suites. This Etsy shop is owned by two sisters – one that is all right-brain, an artist whose garden offers the most beautiful of flowers to be found in Australia, which she loves to paint in her sunny studio. The other takes all of her sister’s whimsical floral designs and transforms them into romantic wedding stationery. The beauty in this is that all of their original designs are fully customizable to complement any bride’s color scheme. Here is a sample of their work:

Etsy Thursday: Bicycle Themed Wedding

Bicycle Themed Wedding Inspiration

I can’t begin to tell you how many amazingly creative and cute bicycle-themed wedding invitations I found on Etsy. So many that I had to cut myself off so that this post is 50 photos long and I decided that I will have to do a second post on bicycle-themed wedding inspiration. I love the vintage feel of the bicycle theme, the colors, and the font. I have put together a unique collection of Etsy wedding finds below that should provide inspiration for anyone considering a bicycle theme – you can incorporate a rustic, vintage-style, or modern bicycle theme.

Wedding Trends for 2013

Wedding Trend Predictions for 2013

As you know Wedding Trends for 2013 is a hot topic right now. I am sure that you have seen a lot of buzz on the blog (this year and last year) about wedding trend predictions for this year, but this post is a bit unique because I wanted to add my own personal feedback on what I have noticed and think will be hot wedding trends for 2013!

Creative, Eclectic, Unique & Intimate Venues

As a wedding planner in Southern California, I’ve noticed my clients are asking and booking more creative, eclectic, and non-traditional venues for their wedding day. Although the beach, hotel, and woodsy outdoor venues have been super popular, I think that we will see more unique venues for brides and grooms in 2013, such as museums/art galleries, restaurants, rooftops in downtown areas, vineyards, industrial-like buildings, private homes, and more. (My venue prediction is featured on Bridal Tweet’s 2013 Wedding Trends post – take a look!)

Here are a couple examples of this trend prediction - Creative, Eclectic, Unique, & Intimate Venues.

Last summer, one of my brides exchanged vows at the Long Beach Museum of Art:

Another one of my clients shared their love vows at a rustic stable in Huntington Beach called Red Horse Barn:

My current bride plans on getting married at a Mason Lodge and you have no idea how beautiful her wedding and reception are going to be at this eclectic venue – can’t wait to share pictures next year!

STYLE & DECOR TREND PREDICTION FOR 2013

When it comes to style and decor for 2013, I anticipate sequins and pearls being a hot new trend for weddings next year in apparel, accessories, and wedding/reception decor. Here are a few examples:

{Apparel}

Sequins Combined With Other Fabric

Full Sequin Dress

Partial Sequin Dress

{Wedding/Reception Decor}

Sequin Linen

Sequin LOVE Letters

Sequin Runner & Chair Covers

Sequin Centerpiece

Pearl Centerpiece

Pearl Cake Accents

Pearl Details On A Wedding Arch

Pearl Jewelry

I LOVE the sequin and pearl trend and I definitely think we will see more of these lovely accents incorporated in weddings in 2013!  I hope you enjoyed my predictions, what do you think will be hot this year?
