MY DECOR PORTFOLIO

I have always had a love for arts and crafts, which over the years has grown into a passion and love for incorporating DIY projects into event decor. Over the past couple years, I have had a few opportunities to try my hand at creating and developing decor for a variety of personal and volunteer events, as well as parties, baby showers, and projects. I would love to share my work with to provide inspiration and showcase some of the beautiful event design work I have created while working with a small budget. I'd love to hear from you, please feel free to share your thoughts on my personal projects!

I am also available for hire to plan your event and/or design and create the decor for your event: party, birthday, baby shower, bridal shower, wedding, etc. Please contact me at 3DMemoirs@gmail.com.

Jake & The Neverland Pirates Birthday Party

Jake & The Neverland Pirates Birthday Party: Bryson DeCuir’s 2nd Birthday Party

I hope by now that you guys have realized what a huge arts & crafts/DIY fan I am – I LOVE working with my hands and creating things, plus it’s very therapeutic and I love to see my work come together. For those of you that missed it, last year I went DIY crazy for my son’s 1st Birthday party – a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme. Well this year, I also decided to pick one of his current favorite shows and decided on putting together a Jake & The Neverland Pirates themed birthday party for his 2nd birthday. I had one caveat though with this theme, which was to pull off a creative Neverland pirate’s theme with no skulls – personally I am not a fan of skulls, especially for kids – so if you know anything about pirate parties, skulls are everywhere. I definitely had a challenge on my hands, but I saw it as a creative challenge to create more DIY decor items for the party – fun, fun, fun!

First, I created a Jake & The Neverland Pirates invitation to mail out to close family and friends. Here is the invitation:

After the invitations were taken care of I went to work on brainstorming and soon after began shopping for items at my favorite stores: Dollar Tree & Michaels! After a month or two of planning and DIY projects, it all came together beautifully for his 2nd birthday. I am super excited and couldn’t wait to share the amazing pictures with you – a huge THANK YOU to Danny Mariscal from The F Stop Design & Photography for taking these awesome pictures that captured all of my hard work!

My Family – me, the hubby, and the birthday boy!

My months of planning paid off and boy did the birthday boy and his guests have a blast! The kids, and even some adults, got to enjoy inflatable slides and a foam shooting range for 1.5 hours, plus face-painting, caricature drawings, and pirate favors for all the kids. It brought joy to my heart to see all the smiles on our friends and family’s faces. I really can’t tell you how happy I am that all my DIY details came together beautifully and were perfectly captured by Danny’s photography! I am proud to say that every single detail that you see in these pictures were designed, coordinated and/or created by me, except for the Jake & the Neverland Party stickers, Jake & The Neverland Party shirt, and the gorgeous cupcakes and cake pops that were made by Rebekah from Let Them Eat Cake! (Please find the vendor credits below.) There was cutting, painting, burning, designing, tearing, purchasing, planning and many more activities involved in these DIY projects and did you notice that I was able to pull it off without any skulls?! :)

Mad Hatter Tea Party Baby Shower

Mad Hatter Tea Party Baby Shower

Today’s DIY topic is Baby Showers! I can’t believe it but a couple years have already passed since my baby shower and I meant to share it with you guys earlier, but better late than never. When I had my baby shower in November 2010, I really wanted a Mad Hatter Tea Party themed baby shower. With my planning and DIY obsessed self, I couldn’t just sit back and let my family plan for me – no, I had to be involved. I came up with the idea and had so much fun being involved and making the decor that you will see below. (My only regret is that I didn’t have a photographer capture the beauty, so please forgive me for these novice pictures.)

When it came to the baby shower invitations, I wanted something really fun and clever that would match the Mad Hatter theme. So, I contacted my amazing graphic designer girlfriend Marsinah, (Owner of Blushing Pearl), and she came up with the design for these adorable invitations – I added the verbiage – and viola I had a beautiful invitation that I loved! (FYI – I cut off the bottom to remove the personal information.) What do you think?

The invitations set the tone for the baby shower and from there I went DIY and baby shower planning crazy! I bought all kinds of unique tea pots for centerpieces, filling each teapot with hot water and allowing my guests to choose their own tea bag flavor and additions. I made “This Way” & “That Way” signs out of cardboard, scrapbooking paper, and painted popsicle sticks to hang around the venue. I made my own hanging tissue paper poms to hang from the ceiling. I made creative favor boxes that said, “Eat Me” full of white chocolate suckers, and “Drink Me” full of personalized tea bags for my guests. I stacked teacups on top of each other along with flowers, playing cards, and confetti for the tables. I made a sign requesting advice from my guests and ordered custom advice cards from VistaPrint. I also ordered the most amazing decorative, fun, and tasty cake from the talented Sara, owner of For The Love of Sugar, and it went perfect with the theme! Take a peek at the party details below!

All in all it was a fun affair and I am happy  that I was able to pull off  a fun and decorative Mad Hatter Tea Party baby shower, of course with the help of my sisters and best friend. I had a wonderful time and opened many lovely gifts for my little one! I hope this post serves as inspiration to any of my DIY readers.

40th Anniversary Party

I hope you are ready for some eye-candy today! I couldn’t wait to share pictures with you from a recent surprise 40th Anniversary Party that I had the privilege of creating the decor for. The event was held on the lovely patio of a local restaurant and the colors for the event were red, black, and white. With it being such an intimate evening celebration, I decided to set the appropriate mood with a romantic feel and beautiful yet simplistic decor that encompassed the event’s colors.

(My decor elements pictured above included the rose centerpieces, rose cluster and baby’s breath square vases, votive candles, rose petals, and decor for the guests of honor’s table and cake table.)

The delicious cake provided by Hansen’s bakery was enjoyed by the guests. As a favor each guest received a white chocolate sucker in a two-heart mold with a LOVE ribbon, and each family received a magnet with a wedding picture of the couple.

Working with this perfectly fitting modest venue space, it was important to added a proportional amount of decor to really enhance the intimate character of this celebratory event without overdoing it. The ambiance was beautiful during the daylight and very romantic in the evening. I am happy to report that I received an appreciable amount of positive feedback on the decor elements from not only the guests (comprised of close family and friends) but also from the guests of honor.  It is always wonderful to receive positive feedback on my work but at the end of the day, I do what I do because I enjoy it and I LOVE to see the smiles on my clients and their guest’s face= priceless.

This surprise 40th Anniversary party was given by the honoree’s oldest children (Sylvia, Ericka, & Aaron (not pictured)). Here is a great picture of my happy clients!

Love the smiles on the honoree’s faces! They were pleasantly surprised, overjoyed, and had a great time. What an amazing occasion to celebrate–40 years of marriage! Wishing them many more blessed years together!
