DIY Baby Shower Candy Buffet

DIY Baby Shower Candy Buffet

Oh sweet baby! This past weekend I put together the most vibrant and gorgeous candy buffet table for a baby shower. Filled with DIY projects, this creative candy buffet was a hit with the guests! I loved the final product so much that I couldn’t wait to share it with you. I hope that it provides you inspiration for your next baby shower or candy buffet.

The inspiration for this candy buffet came from this adorable Pink Safari baby shower invitation from Party City.

babyshower invitation

I loved the invitation because it shyed away from the ordinary by encompassing a fuchsia, pastel pink, white, and black color palette plus 2 different patterns – zebra print and leopard spots. I knew this was going to be a fun challenge for me to combine these various components together cohesively in a beautiful candy buffet.

First I searched around for appropriate “candy jars” and decided to go with a variety of different shapes, heights, widths, and sizes. I purchased vases from Walmart, Dollar Tree, and Michaels since I found them to be the best retail options. (I also purchased some from a wholesaler I have membership to called Shinoda’s.) DIY alert: To add additional height to 2 of the cylinder vases, I simply purchased a glass candlestick holder from the Dollar Tree and glued it to the base of the vase. For added accents, I bought various ribbons matching the theme colors and patterns and hot glued them to the vases. (The best way to do this is to tape one end of the ribbon to the vase, wrap it around and then hot glue the other end of the ribbon to the overlapping ribbon base. This way you can always pull off the ribbon and reuse the vase for a future event.)

Note: remember when you are looking for vases for a candy buffet you don’t want to get anything with a skinny neck that would make using tongs or a scooper difficult for your guests to grab the candy.

Next, being a big DIY fan as you know, I decided to make a tissue paper tassel garland and make the banner, instead of purchasing one. Thanks to HGTV’s DIY instructions I was able to pull off a beautiful complimentary tissue paper garland tassel for the candy buffet table. It is really easy to make, cost effective, and a gorgeous decoration addition to any event or themed table. I am sure this won’t be the last one you see from me. :)

 tissue paper tassel garland

For the banner I came up with a creatively cute idea, instead of the typical “It’s a Girl” or “Baby Shower”, I came up with “Oh Sweet Baby”, which I thought was the perfect word play to tie together the event and the candy buffet. I made the letters on my computer, cut them, and then adhered them to patterned scrapbooking paper. Then I punched holes in the top and strung ribbon through each letter. It came out beautifully and was a perfect addition to the backdrop for the candy buffet table. Lastly, adding a few paper pin wheels from Party City along with the banner made for an amazing backdrop.

A huge plus for this gorgeous candy buffet were the fitted white rectangular linen and the fuchsia table runner from Linen Tablecloth. The quality of the linen was amazing and elegant plus it just looked so much better than a paper or plastic tablecloth would have. The satin table runner had the perfect brilliant fuchsia color making everything on the table pop! At only $2.39 it is a steal of a deal! I really do recommend purchasing linens from Linen Tablecloth because they are really affordable (usually cheaper than renting) and they provide quality linen that you can re-use over and over again. If you don’t believe my raves then head over to their site www.linentablecloth.com – read the reviews and try for yourself!

Last but not least, in addition to the candy I added elements like fuchsia boa’s from the Dollar Tree, extra tissue paper tassels, a picture frame, small vase with carnations, candy scoopers, and matching favor bags from Party City with Thank You stickers. Take a look at how it all came together beautifully! (Make sure you check out my tips for pulling off a beautiful candy buffet table below.)

For my first candy buffet table I was really blown away with the results once I was able to visually see everything blend together beautifully. I encourage you, especially my DIY readers, to do a candy or dessert buffet and share the photos with me, I’d love to see your creation and I’m always looking for beautiful content and DIY projects to share on the blog! Please contact me if you have something you think would be perfect to share on 3D-Memoirs!

Please let me know what you think by leaving a comment below! I’d also love it if you could be so kind as to PIN the photos on Pinterest and/or share the post on FB or Twitter! Here are a couple of tips for a successful candy buffet table:

  • Add height and depth by utilizing various vases/jars, staggering on the table, and/or adding decorative boxes or crates for some of the vases to sit on
  • Make sure you buy enough candy to fill the vases/jars at least 3/4 of the way
  • Add fillers to the table that matches the theme of your occasion (i.e. crystals, toys, flowers, feathers, etc)
  • If you have a 6 ft table you’ll probably need 12-15 vases/jars for it to look full and complete
  • If you can get candy that fits your color palette it always looks awesome but it is not a requirement
  • Don’t forget the scoopers, tongs, or favor bags for your guests
  • If it is going to be outside and it’s a hot day, it is best to avoid having chocolate
  • Use a table runner, garland, backdrop, banner, tags, or decorate the vases to add beautiful touches to your table

Elephant Baby Shower

Elephant Baby Shower Inspiration Board

For this week’s Inspiration Board Tuesday I decided to put together an inspiration board for a lovely elephant baby shower! I love the use of elephants as a focal piece for a baby shower because they are super cute and not overused – they can be made to look cute and cuddly in various colors and patterns as you’ll see below. The awesome thing too is that this theme can be used for a boy or a girl!

When it comes to selecting a color palette it is most common to go with pink (for girls) and blue (for boys), but with summer around the corner I thought it would be creatively thinking outside the box plus more fun to go with a vibrant blue and orange color palette for this elephant baby shower.

As you can see from the inspiration board the decor can be simple yet beautiful. Buy or make some sort of banner or garland to hang, use simple centerpieces such as flowers/plants, bring out the color palette with the linen and paper products, tie in the theme with the cake and favors, and line up some fun games! It’s always nice to add some decor elements such as elephants in a picture frame or elephant cutouts on the table to add to the overall theme.

Some other creative color palette options for this elephant baby shower theme would be gray and blue, charcoal gray and white, yellow and gray, light green and turquoise blue, fuchsia and pink, yellow and pink, green and white, green and charcoal gray, red and turquoise blue, black and white with gold accents, and purple and gray.

Garden Party Kid’s Birthday

Garden Party Birthday for Kid’s

Planning a kid’s birthday party? Let them have fun in the dirt while teaching them about plants and flowers – let them connect with their “green thumb”. Can you tell that I enjoy and appreciate Spring and all that it has to offer? I think that this is a very creative and fun birthday party theme. For fun, why not let the kid’s plant seeds or a potted plant in your yard; show them some of the good and bad garden bugs, pass out planting pot favors filled with a shovel, seeds, gardening gloves, and other goodies; show them various flowers or fruits and vegetables in your garden – explaining the process from seed to growth and how to care for them; let them paint flowering pots for fun; and develop a light menu full of healthy and creative bites like the samples you see below!

DIY Friday: Spring Dinner Party

DIY Spring Soiree – Dinner Party

Want to have a Spring soiree with a few of your close friends perhaps in the comfort of your home or undeneath the beautiful stars? Today I am sharing a few DIY projects and tips for an intimate springtime evening dinner party! For this post I am going for grown and sexy, simple yet elegant!

1. Dinner Guestlist

Decide on your guest count and put together your invitee list.

2.DIY Invitations

Decide on the dinner party details – location, date, time, and theme, if any. Then find a creative way to share the deets about your event – here are a few examples:

Be “old-fashioned” and personally handwrite invitations to each of your guests on lovely paper like this from the Paper Source:

4661007710

Or you can use some creative fonts that fit your theme and simply print your invitation on lovely paper!

Another inexpesive option that I am a HUGE fan of is buy a lovely personalized printable DIY invitation (jpg) from an Etsy vendor like this one from Trinity St. Studio:

invitation

3. DIY Decor

Decide on the ambiance and your decor for your dinner party. (In the DIY examples below I am going for a romantic spring-like ambiance.) Take a look at these inexpensive DIY projects for decor:

Save your wine or beer bottles and buy candlesticks from the Dollar Tree. DIY instructions from Happy Mundane here:

If you wanted to add a little bit of color, then try something like this wear you either buy color vases or paint your own and add flowers and succulents as shared on Little Miss Momma:

colored vases

For decor you can buy elegant premium plastic dinner ware products from Party City or from the Dollar Tree:

dinner platesdinner plates

Buy affordable beautiful table covers from Party City or elegant linens from Linen Tablecloth! Buy or make your own table runners to add some pizzaz or use your favorite scrapbooking paper as a place mat for each dinner set.

4. Personalized Favors

Do something simple or even something grand, this isnt required but a special touch. You can offer something edible or useable that you make. Here is a lovely creative idea I found on HGTV – infused sugars (you can find these containers at Michaels and choose to personalize them with your guests name):

Original_Eden-Passante-Sugar-and-Charm-infused-sugar-lime-lavender-lemon-party-favors-beauty-2_s4x3_lg

Or how about a beautiful personalized “green” gift like this one featured on Design Sponge:

5. DIY Food and Drinks

Food – go for a food bar like taco bar, sandwhich bar, burger bar, baked potato bar, chili bar, grilled cheese bar, etc. You just want to pick something that is cost effective for the quantity of guests but is also fulfilling and offers a lot variety – this is the fun part for your guests, to actually pick their toppings! Here is an example of a baked potato bar shared on Lucy Dylan Weddings:

potato bar

Dessert – since you are going with the food bar, you can also add a dessert bar with a myriad of desserts or focused on one particular item – cheesecake bar, ice cream bar, fruit bar, fondue bar, cookies bar, cupcake bar, etc. If you want to keep the dessert simple – make your favorite dessert – cake, cookies, pie, brownies, etc or if you aren’t a great chef opt for some awesome bakery or store bought desserts and put them on lovely plates for your guests to choose!

Drinks – if you are in the mood for libations, share your favorite wine, beer, or make a creative signature drink for your guests! Or you can go bar crazy and go with a drink bar – i.e. a Margarita, Mimosa, or Mojito bar.  If you and your guests do not drink, make a yummy and refreshing drink to share, such as this Pomegranate Spritzer shared on White on Rice Couple:

drink

Beach Bridal Shower Inspiration Board

Beach Bridal Shower

You are in for a real treat – with Spring here and summer around the corner -this week’s Inspiration Board Tuesday pick is a beach themed bridal shower! Living in southern CA I must admit that I am pretty spoiled with all the lovely  local beaches to choose from + the lovely weather we usually have year-round! For those brides that love the beach and may not have one nearby or have the weather for a beach celebration, why not plan a beautiful beach bridal shower – a perfect theme to host at a venue or a private home. For this week’s beach bridal shower inspiration board I decided to stay with the blue and tan hues with white and brown accents, however depending on the season and your creativeness you can definitely change the color palette. For a beach bridal shower you will want to collect seashells, seahorses, starfish, sand (in vases/centerpieces), coral, and anything else that is representative of the beach and sprinkle around the venue to create the perfect beach decor. This theme is so simplistic yet serene and beautiful – check out my inspiration board below!
