DIY Ideas for a Holiday Dinner Party

DIY Ideas for a Holiday Dinner Party + Giveaway

With the holidays being upon us I figured why not do a special DIY Friday post with inspirational ideas for hosting a holiday dinner party. I am a huge DIY’er and DIY fan! (Side note: I can’t wait until we buy a house next year so I can DIY-myself crazy with holiday decor and dinner parties!) When it comes to hosting an awesome dinner party there are a couple must-haves to create the perfect ambiance = great company + amazing food + beautiful ambiance/decor + awesome music! Pull this off and you will have your friends talking about your amazing party for weeks.  (Don’t forget to join the holiday spirit and buy a Christmas tree.)

Whether you are planning a large Christmas holiday get-to-gether or an intimate dinner, after you decide on your guestlist, you’ll want to plan the decor & the menu (food & drinks/libations). Due to all the wonderful ideas I have to share with you, I have decided to split these two elements {Decor & Menu} into two separate posts – make sure you come back tomorrow for some amazing food and drink inspiration and recipes for a tasty dinner party!

{DIY DECOR}

You will definitely want set the tone for your Christmas dinner party, so it is important for you to utilize the decor to create the perfect ambiance for your guests.  To get your creative juices going, here are some decor ideas (with photo examples):

  • Votives & Candles (make sure to distribute them throughout the entire event space) – I would recommend Mercury or gold glass votives in various sizes, heights, and shapes. You can also use clear votives and wrap them with a piece of your favorite ribbon, twine, or fabric.

  • Pine Cones – Scented pine cones would be an awesome selection if your guests are not sensitive to scents. You can use frosted pine cones, brown pine cones, or choose to paint your pinecones, dip them in glitter, or string them to make a garland. (Check out these pine cone crafts!)

  • Christmas Tree Branches – Cut some bottom hanging Christmas tree branches from your tree and use them as decoration around your centerpiece, on your mantle or dinner table, or as part of a centerpiece.

  • Gold chargers and gold decor accents – Use the gold chargers for intimate dinners at your table. Make sure to include gold decor accents (bulbs, ribbon, candleholders, ornaments, figurines, etc) on the table and around your event space.

  • Linen – Depending on your color palette, select your tables linen and/or runner that will complement your decor elements.

Ever thought that you could never afford to buy linens for a dinner party or event? Me too! Ideas for a Vibrant Summer Bridal Shower

Everyone LOVES weddings & so does 3D-Memoirs, but before you take the most anticipated walk down the aisle there’s a little celebratory event with close friends and family called the BRIDAL SHOWER!  Today, I have the honor of sharing some amazing invitation “eye-candy” from one of our favorite sites: Wedding Paper Divas!! I hope you are as excited as I am to see some of the creative & lovely bridal shower invitations that Wedding Paper Divas offers–a perfect personal touch for those DIY Bridal Showers!

To add to this “eye-candy”, I will be sharing a couple of DIY ideas (found across the web) to incorporate with these lovely Bridal Shower invitations! Ready for some Bridal Shower inspiration?

Bridal Shower Invitation from

Bridal Shower Invitation {Freshly Festive : Basil}

Back of Bridal Shower Invitation {Freshly Festive: Basil}

Lovely vibrant punches of color makes this invitation perfect for a late Spring or Summer Bridal Shower. I am loving this fresh color scheme of soft mint punctuated with bright orange, yellow and cherry. A potential theme that comes to mind is “Summer Love” (or “Spring Love In Bloom” if you have it during the spring) and here are some DIY ideas to help you put this bridal shower together.

Bridal Shower Food & Drinks

For this “Summer Love” Bridal Shower a simple, light, & refreshing meal would be ideal. Here are some wonderful menu & drink options, courtesy of some of my favorite Pinterest pins!

Here is a sample health-conscious menu: finger sandwiches (pick your favorite meat(s) & bread(s) or offer a variety), veggie tray, mixed greens salad (add blueberries, strawberries, blackberries/raspberries) tossed with a light fruit vinaigrette, and these lovely fruit kebabs!

Fruit Kebabs

Below you will find some of my favorite Pinterest pins for drinks & libations. Whether you choose to add alcohol or not, these tasty drinks will go perfect with your “Summer Love” Bridal Shower theme!

Pineapple Sangria

Low Country Lemonade (lemonade, peach schnapps & blue curaçao)

Sweet Basil Lemonade (non-alcoholic)

Summer Pineapple Strawberry Cooler (Rum is optional)

To add to the summery charm, don’t forget to add colorful straws wrapped with the bridal shower details.

Colorful Paper Straws

Bridal Shower Decor

Make a crepe paper backdrop, perfect to display behind the food/dessert table or as a funbackdrop for photos with the Bride.

Hang colorful paper lanterns and/or honeycomb tissue balls (see below) around the house/backyard/venue to decorate your event space with color. Use varying sizes, shapes, & patterns of orange, yellow, pink, white/creme, red, turquoise, & mint green to match the Wedding Paper Divas invitation!

Orange Paper Lantern

Yellow Nylon Hanging Lantern

Begonia Red Paper Lantern

White Honeycomb Ball

It would be amazing if you could score mint green tablecloths to compliment the Wedding Paper Divas’ Bridal Shower invitation, but I realize that it is probably a difficult color to come across. Whether you rent linens or buy paper/plastic tablecloths I would recommend white, yellow, or ivory and utilize your decor to bring in the colorful elements.

For your table centerpieces, a simple touch of flowers will add a elegant element to this summer Bridal Shower. Here are a few simple yet beautiful examples of centerpieces that you can incorporate:

Colorful Gerbera Daisies

This lovely centerpiece combines colorful Gerbera Daisies in a tall vase lightly filled with rocks. The pop of color from the flowers and simplicity of the centerpiece definitely adds an elegant touch to your bridal shower decor.

DIY Floral Centerpieces {Featured by Hostess With The Mostess}

This beautiful DIY centerpiece by Geranium Lake (featured on Hostess with the Mostess) is a simple and lovely centerpiece for a “Summer Love” Bridal Shower. Select beautiful & colorful wrapping paper to wrap around cylinder vases and/cans and add a beautiful trim with a complimentary ribbon. (You can probably substitute the wrapping paper for colorful fabric or layered tissue paper.)

Fruit Centerpiece

Pick bright fruits that compliment this Wedding Paper Divas Bridal Shower invitation–strawberries, lemons, oranges, cherries–and fill (at varying heights) a couple vases for each table and add a few colorful flowers, rocks, gems/beads to the vase and VIOLA!

Succulents

Loving the look of these mint to light green succulents in silver dishes as a centerpiece!

LOVE Flower Centerpiece

These monogrammed mugs filled with flowers make for beautiful centerpieces. Use bright and colorful flowers, or stick with white flowers if you have enough color infused throughout the room. If you don’t have these crafty mugs to use, simply substitute them for colored/painted pots, tin cans, or bark wrapped vases.

Bridal Shower Favors

For your guests favors, you can either fill a mini pillow pack with red hots (hearts) or a daisy favor box with colorful candy and personalize the label with “Summer Love is so Sweet” or the Bridal Shower details (date, bride’s name, etc)!

Cute DIY napkin ring for your event!

Looking for a cute DIY napkin ring for your event?

Cute idea I stumbled upon courtesy of Once Wed

Materials:
Fabric ( a 2” x 2” scrap for each button)
Cover Buttons ( 1 ½” in diameter,  one per napkin ring)
Ribbon ( 6” length per ring, 1” wide)
Thread

Tools:

Scissors
Needle

Resources:
Fabric:  “Leaf Honeycomb” by Joelle Hoverson  and Moda “Green Butterfly
Lace” available at  Purlsoho.com
All other supplies available and fabric and craft stores.

Directions:

1.   Begin by ironing your fabric so it’s free of wrinkles.  Follow the
instructions on the cover button package to create your buttons.  There
are several styles of cover buttons.    With all, you’ll be cutting a
circle of your fabric with their template,  stretching the fabric over the
top of the button, then snapping the back on the button.    ( see figure 1
and 2)

2.   Cut a length of ribbon 6 inches long.  Run the ribbon through the
metal loop on the     back, so the finished button is centered on the
ribbon with the right side of the ribbon facing up.  (see figure 3)

3.  Pull the ends of the ribbon up so the right sides meet.  The button
will be inside,  facing up towards the ribbon ends.  (see figure 4)

4.  Approximately 1/4 of an inch from the ribbon edges, do a straight
stitch to close the “ring”.   Tie off your thread with a sturdy knot.
Trim away loose threads.    (see figure 5)

5.  Turn the ring you just created right side out, so the button is on
top.   Pull the ribbon through the metal loop of the button until the seam
you just stitched  is directly beneath, and hidden by the button. (see
figure 6)

6.  Make one napkin ring per guest.   Mix and match your fabrics to liven
up the tables.   ( see figure 7)

7.  Fold the napkin in half, roll it, and slide through the ring and place.

Budget: ( to create one napkin ring)
Fabric – $. 03  (you can get almost  400 buttons out of a single yard of
44” fabric)
Cover button – $.75 each
Ribbon  $.20
Total Spent $.98 each
