{DIY Christmas Inspiration}

This year I wanted to do a DIY Christmas decoration inspiration shoot, but I just couldn’t make it happen due to time constraints. So as a final takeaway, I wanted to share with you my DIY Christmas Floral Centerpiece that I made for less than $10. I bought the silk flowers, vase, ribbon, and gold Christmas trees from the Dollar Tree and I used pieces from old pinecones as the vase filler and the remaining pine cones as decorative pieces. I hope you like my creation!

Holidays for Heroes

Holidays For Heroes – Sending Christmas to our US Troops!

You may not know, but Christmas is my favorite holiday and time of the year! As a Christian, I love what it represents religiously and I truly enjoy the time spent with family, gift-giving, amazing food and desserts, festive decorations, the smell of a real Christmas tree and staring at the beautiful twinkling lights, cold weather and warm clothes, and good ‘ole Christmas songs. I feel confident in saying that there are many others like me that just absolutely love the Christmas holiday.

Recently I watched a TV show where they were interviewing military wives and one of the wives shared that her husband was brought to tears once by a stranger that approached him in the airport, shook his hand, and warmly thanked him for his service. The wives agreed that this sort of gesture doesn’t happen often but is very much appreciated by our soldiers. During the interview the host shared that he realized the previous year that a lot of active military personnel are away from their loved ones during Christmas or sadly do not have any close family or friends that they can expect to hear from during Christmas. The truly saddened me as I never before considered that during one of the most joyous times of the year, that there were US soldiers deployed, going without, separated from their families, and perhaps lonely. These individuals are selflessly defending my liberties & freedoms, a true sacrifice, while I celebrate Christmas and all that I love with my friends and family.

Truly touched by these realizations, I decided that this year I wanted to get involved and send care packages to our troops, reminding them that we appreciate their sacrifice and dedication, and are truly thankful for their service to our country. But I knew I couldn’t do this alone, so I reached out to a blogger friend to collaborate with on this project and I could not have found a better partner than Sara from Burnetts Boards! Being the amazing person that she is, she immediately jumped on board and loved the idea of sending holiday cheer to our military heroes.

DIY Ideas for a Holiday Dinner Party

DIY Ideas for a Holiday Dinner Party + Giveaway

With the holidays being upon us I figured why not do a special DIY Friday post with inspirational ideas for hosting a holiday dinner party. I am a huge DIY’er and DIY fan! (Side note: I can’t wait until we buy a house next year so I can DIY-myself crazy with holiday decor and dinner parties!) When it comes to hosting an awesome dinner party there are a couple must-haves to create the perfect ambiance = great company + amazing food + beautiful ambiance/decor + awesome music! Pull this off and you will have your friends talking about your amazing party for weeks.  (Don’t forget to join the holiday spirit and buy a Christmas tree.)

Whether you are planning a large Christmas holiday get-to-gether or an intimate dinner, after you decide on your guestlist, you’ll want to plan the decor & the menu (food & drinks/libations). Due to all the wonderful ideas I have to share with you, I have decided to split these two elements {Decor & Menu} into two separate posts – make sure you come back tomorrow for some amazing food and drink inspiration and recipes for a tasty dinner party!

{DIY DECOR}

You will definitely want set the tone for your Christmas dinner party, so it is important for you to utilize the decor to create the perfect ambiance for your guests.  To get your creative juices going, here are some decor ideas (with photo examples):

  • Votives & Candles (make sure to distribute them throughout the entire event space) – I would recommend Mercury or gold glass votives in various sizes, heights, and shapes. You can also use clear votives and wrap them with a piece of your favorite ribbon, twine, or fabric.

  • Pine Cones – Scented pine cones would be an awesome selection if your guests are not sensitive to scents. You can use frosted pine cones, brown pine cones, or choose to paint your pinecones, dip them in glitter, or string them to make a garland. (Check out these pine cone crafts!)

  • Christmas Tree Branches – Cut some bottom hanging Christmas tree branches from your tree and use them as decoration around your centerpiece, on your mantle or dinner table, or as part of a centerpiece.

  • Gold chargers and gold decor accents – Use the gold chargers for intimate dinners at your table. Make sure to include gold decor accents (bulbs, ribbon, candleholders, ornaments, figurines, etc) on the table and around your event space.

  • Color Palette – Choose a festive color palette for your linens and decor such as shades of brown, red, tan/ivory, burnt orange. Here is an example:

(Find more wonderful Christmas color palette inspiration on Design Seeds!)

  • Linen – Depending on your color palette, select your tables linen and/or runner that will complement your decor elements.

Ever thought that you could never afford to buy linens for a dinner party or event? Me too! At $20 a linen, it could be very expensive to purchase several linen table cloths that you can use over and over again, so most of us will either rent linens that we have to return or purchase plastic/paper linen for our events. Well I am happy to share that I have come across an online company that sells linens at ridiculously low and affordable prices – Linen Tablecloth! I like their prices and products so much that 3D-Memoirs is giving away a $40 gift card to Linen Tablecloth to one of our lovely readers – interested? Good – you will definitely want to win this!
