Hot Wedding Trend for 2013: #9 Garlands

Brides are always looking for easy DIY décor, and garlands are one of the easiest. Also called buntings, garlands have become hot again, but they are being hung in different ways – not simply strung across the ceiling but hung vertically, along the front of the head table, used as backdrops or wrapped around pillars.

Some Materials for DIY Garlands:

Laser Cuts, which is essentially the cutout of a design, can be seen in everything from fashion to paper goods, and it will be a big trend for weddings in 2013.

Why will laser cuts be popular? Because laser cutting gives the look of lace, which is great for those planning a vintage wedding theme. It also makes more a more stunning design, for an invitation for example, because another material or color can be seen through the cutout design.

10 Hot Wedding Trends for 2013: #1 MINT

The color mint was huge on the runway at the spring fashion shows this year. You’ll see this soft, soothing color on save the dates, wedding invitations, bridesmaid dresses, flowers, and wedding decor. To make the theme more than just the color, mint will also make its way into signature wedding cocktails (think mojitos), cakes and cupcakes, centerpieces, and wedding favors.

Why the sudden like for mint? The vintage trend has brought mint green back to the forefront as it was the color of choice for many home and personal items (such as telephones, typewriters, appliances, bathroom sinks and tile) in the 1940s and 1950s. In their Spring issue, Martha Stewart Weddings has also jumped on the mint bandwagon, suggesting that brides pair it with lemon yellow for a beautiful, fresh color palette.

Wedding on a Budget

I designed and styled this beautiful wedding reception on 11-11-11. The Bride & Groom’s colors were Persimmon (Orange), Chocolate, & White with hints of Gold & Copper. I turned this plain park reception hall into a beautiful affair with elegantly styled details & decor. (This is a perfect example of a budget-styled wedding that can be beautifully decorated with DIY projects.)
